Way 2 Slide

Downloadable Instructions:  The Slider - Way 2 Slide

A few key points:

  • Always wear practice pants or sweatpants to prevent burns and enhance the smoothness of the slide.
  • It is best to wear socks to practice the sliding technique – this also allows for a smooth slide and enhances the life of the product.
  • The Slider makes for a smooth surface allowing many practice repetitions.

Now that you have socks and pants you are ready to go!

DO NOT slide head first.

The Bent Leg Slide

  • Determine which leg will be bent during the bent leg slide. The player can stand on one leg and bend the other leg at the knee, bringing it behind the other leg.
  • Raise both hands overhead.
  • Player should start to squat, while keeping bent leg up, then sit down.  The natural outcome is the player will roll onto his/her back with the feet coming up in the air.  (This will only happen in this learning phase – not during an actual slide). When the player has rolled back to a seated position, he/she should continue to have their hands up and front leg should be bent not straight.
  • Once comfortable with this, feel free to take a couple of steps and slide.  Then progressively work up from walking, to jogging and finally run at full speed to slide.
  • When jogging or running, the players should begin the slide at the start of The Slider.  This will allow for 10’ of space to reach the “base”.
  • Remember to keep hands up and not on the ground. This prevents jammed fingers or injuries to the hand.  If this is a challenge, work on keeping them above the head to break any habits of the hands going to the ground.
  • Focus on sliding on your bottom, not the side of the leg.  Much more padding and cushion on the bottom.
  • Front leg should be bent to allow for give when sliding into the base.
